March against Monsanto Day
«
on:
May 25, 2013, 01:10:16 AM »
Just reminding everyone that tomorrow is the worldwide March against Monsanto event. I'm going with some friends to represent the young libertarians of my state. I encourage all of you to attend to protest one of the most dangerous corporate/government power structures in the world right now. Monsanto=poison. Organic/farmer's markets=health.

Are they really that bad? I mean, not that I'd doubt it exploits State licensure and whatnot to its advantage, but many of its opponents always struck me as a bunch of economic-illiterate hippies.

^A good portion of the people there were leftist-hippie types. I figured that they would be in large numbers at the event. However, there were also a very good number of libertarians as well.

No wonder you seem so uninformed, judging books by their cover.

Most of the arguments I've heard are hippy (broadly anti-business, pro-environment to ridiculous extents, pro-small farmer to ridiculous extents, etc etc). Arguments like that just don't win me over, frankly.
I have been looking at the more libertarian arguments against them (using corporate licensure to dominate the market, violating private property, lowering quality, etc etc), and they do make sense.

The arguments I've heard against Monsanto are a mixed bag.
I've heard alot of stuff coming out of the "organic" camp.
Man I hate herbalist and organic arguments.

Personally I admire companies like Monsanto that can exploit the state to make massive profits. However, I am opposed to government allowing this to exist through subsidies and regs.

Many statist-environmentalists want Monsanto to be stopped by government, even though it only exists because of the government.
Here are some news reports about the marches:

Research Monsanto and not those that protest it. To say there is nothing wrong with Monsanto because hippies protest it is stupid and irresponsible. You just may gain an understanding of what hippies are able to comprehend. Perhaps not.

Terms like ‘stupid’ and ‘irresponsible,’ while not exactly complimentary, express specific concepts, rather than just being generic insults. The fact that you don’t like those qualities being identified doesn’t make them untrue.
