http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/advisor/five-workplace-irritations-actually-boost-productivity-161023700.html

Quote
1. Receiving sarcastic criticism from a manager or client.
You simply are inspired to work harder, not niftier, when you get yelled at, Gimbel explains. “When scolded, your sole goal is to do something as you were told so that you’re not reprimanded again. Receiving sarcasm requires far more of a cognitive effort and complex thinking. Because you have to peel back the layers of the satirical remarks, your brain is forced to analyze and interpret different possible meanings behind the comments, hence increasing ingenuity and problem-solving skills.”

Sooooooo....me being sarcastic to the idiots around me make them smarter? Huh...I guess now I have an excuse to let loose a large amount of the 99.999% of sarcastic comments I think of but don't say. Since you know it's for a good cause Wink

I disagree with every point in that entire article.

Oh? Are there any particular points you disagree with more vehemently? And if so why?

P.S. For the most part I skimmed the article, the only part I read in depth was what I quoted, the part about sarcasm.

In my personal experience, all of those points are dead wrong.

Okay then...since I have no experience in a normal work environment (all of my jobs have been odd jobs of mowing lawns, raking leaves, and grey market tutoring) I'll just have to take your word for it.

I've only worked part-time in fast food, but I'll definitely go with Seth.

I'm not disagreeing with you two, I mostly linked to the article for 2 reasons.... 1. I thought the part about sarcasm was amusing and since I live and breathe sarcasm found that it would be nice if sarcasm did make people smarter...unfortunately I also realized that was most likely a load of crap. 2. I wanted the opinion of those on here who might have had a "formal" white-market job. An opinion I now am aware of.

To be honest it can sorta depend on the job. Like, if you're working at a small gaming company with good friends...yeah, maybe, but a BIG maybe.

But if you're talking about a small-office long-hours corporate job, most of the people hate each other and are miserable (I imagine the main reason they're not at eachother's throats is they hate management more) and adding another reason for them to hate you doesn't help.
