Here are some examples:

"Guns are fine, just:
Your gun, your responsibility until you surrender it. Lock it, control it, lose it and any crime committed with it is your jail time.
Traceable bullets (serial numbers.) The only argument is cost. If you want to shoot, pay the proper cost. Don't be cheap.
Consider implanting technology that follows your gun with GPS. A tiny chip for all, new ones have it, old ones retrofit.
Maybe you should be allowed any gun that when shot, the bullet will land on your property. More dense housing means quick police arrival. No one wants to have someone next door in an apartment armed, when a bullet can come through your wall."

"At the bottom of any liberal like Joe Nocera's "argument" is a simple exasperation: "Why on earth are you so fascinated with weapons? Are you mentally unstable?" I am one who shares this exasperation. I know lots of people, gun owners and non-gun owners, and no matter how much I like the gun-owner, I cannot escape that simple question. And I have my answer. Personally, I have never had any idea about guns other than they belong in the realm of well organized militias such as the military and the police. I support the military and the police. Their guns enforce our laws. What laws do your guns as a private citizen enforce, other than the law of the jungle? But we don't want to live under that law, we don't try to live under that law, and the ones who do are called criminals. Furthermore, do you fear your government turning tyrannical? Then you fear your fellow man, and I don't blame you for wanting a gun. But then you are the last person who should have one, lest your delicate paranoia is indicative of further instability. And I don't care who you are, if you like guns, if you have guns, this is how I feel about you. Sorry."

"Your premise, Dan Baum, is absolutely ludicrous. You change laws because it's not about statistics it's about lives and if you prevent even one person who shouldn't own an assault weapon from purchasing one and you prevent one death from happening IT MATTERS. Secondly, the idea is that when you combine the restriction on unnecessary assault weapons purchases, you encourage buyback programs, you enact tougher registration laws and you create national background checks it will slowly eat away at that 300 million gun count."

"Joe understands guns much better than the gun guy. Guns are frightfully dangerous and without them the massacres would not have happened. What more does anyone need to understand?"

"Would that all "gun guys" were as responsible and thoughtful as Dan. However, we all know that's simply not the case. AND, Dan hinted at concerns over national registration databases - that's the conspiracy theorists' influence, fear of the big, bad government coming to take away peoples' guns to create a totalitarian state. The only people making that claim are the conspiracy nuts, racists and the NRA - no one else. It's all a ruse to sell more guns. NEVER forget that Wayne LaPierre is a paid shill for the gun industry."

"Dan said, please show us respect, let gun guys make their own decisions. It's like saying let drunk drivers make their own rules regardless how many people who get kill by their reckless behavior. The people who get kill, you have to wait and wait until gun guys come to their common sense, don't you think?"

Are these people serious!?

They are fucking pathetic bitches. Too weak to understand that life is about personal responsibility. I've never murdered anyone. I've never fired I weapon I didn't intend to.

Frankly these Statists deserve exactly what they get. Their enslavement.

Ahh.... And now we come the great paradoxes of democracy. For with statist law you can't take the weapons from the wicked without crippling the defenses of the righteous. If only these fearful masqueraders could open they're thoughts.

The paradox of your post here is simple. If they could open their minds and think, they wouldn't be Statists.  Tongue

They're willing to "pay the price" for the "greater/public good", and of course they're smart enough to tell what that is, or it's self evident. I think that's the core mentality behind all this; collectivism with the lack of scepticism/humility.

I'm at a pretty libby college right now, and this does seem to sum up people's opinions. I've heard people literally state that they just plain don't get the logic. They look down on gun owners (much as they do Republicans) like a bunch of backwoods rednecks.

I hate it here.
