Many people have this idea in their mind of how "government should work" that is much like a young man's idea of a perfect woman. When you show them that our USA government sucks, they will agree and tell you hair raising stories that you did not even know about. But then, if you say that government itself is wrong, they will think you a nut. It is real hard to get a man to overcome a lifetime of propaganda and see that government itself is the root evil.

Men think that there is some "fix" to make government "work". A progressive at some sites will holler that we need "more and better Democrats". A right-winger will often holler that all we need is to get rid of the damned socialists.

Government is an institution that will destroy us. It must be dealt with. (good luck on that)

Well said. I had a similar conversation with a new acquaintance the other day. He's a progressive who is all about trying to get the government to do the right thing. I kept telling him it's a lost cause, but he droned on about how that attitude perpetuates bad government. Unfortunately, it was in passing and I didn't have time to get into a real spiel.
