That book has shifted my thinking in a really big way. I just started reading Sex at Dusk, which is a rebuttal of Sex at Dawn.
2  General Category / General Discussion / Re: My concerns with moving to NH on: August 03, 2013, 11:25:16 AM
NH has by far the most liberty minded folk anywhere.  There are new movers every month. I participated in 3 move in parties last month alone but there were more.  There are already alot of people here sympathetic to the cause and will appreciate people like you.

Dont focus too much on the negative because it will make you depressed and paralyze you into inaction.
I came to NH because that is where the most liberty lovers are.  Every other reason was secondary.

When is this happening?  Civ 4 is about the only game I play anymore since I just don't have that much time.

I looked at freeciv several years ago.  I should take another look.

Once again I missed it.  My job conspired against my personal life yet again.  It really is time for a change.

Hey guys. It's been awhile.

I'm not leaving under any circumstances. What would be the point?  The tyranny is global.  I made my choice to plant my flag in NH come what may.  If the rest of The Awoken do the same, NH would be a stronghold.

My wife and I just bought a house in NH.
This is where I stand.
6  General Category / General Discussion / Re: DHS shuts down Bitcoin trading platform Dwolla on: May 18, 2013, 06:14:03 PM
I stopped using dwolla when they started requiring a photo id to be uploaded.  I think public facing exchanges are doomed because they represent easy targets that can cause a lot of disruption if shut down.  The way forward on bitcoin in my opinion is individual e changes face to face.

And now, without great sacrifice to our own, the adversary reveals his move, thus showing the way around his guard.

Take heart; The spread of knowledge cannot long be impeded.

Nashua or Portsmouth.  Nash have tons of tech jobs and thats where I work.  Portsmouth is a really neat place with parks and lots of shops and its by the ocean.  Send me a pm when you plan on visiting and my wife and I will help show you around and introduce you to the crew.
9  General Category / General Discussion / For those that feel alone... on: May 06, 2013, 12:21:08 PM
Just wanted to share with everyone my weekend.  When my wife and I moved to Nashua NH we met some local freestaters and began networking.  We got invited to a couple of birthday parties and they were a blast. The one that happened saturday had close to 50 people show over the course of the afternoon.

It is an awesome feeling being around other people that 'get' where you are coming from.  Everytime I get a little discouraged, my morale is replentished by spending a little time with these awesome folks.

So dont feel alone, there are people like you.
Come to NH and see for yourself.

Dont despair. I know i felt like I would never make it here either. It took life getting really shitty for me to just say "screw everything im going". My wife and I sold everything we couldnt fit in her car, including selling my car. I asked Seth where he stayed when he first moved and he pointed us to a few Porc Manors.  I had a little silver saved and they accepted that for rent.  We used our income tax return, my last paycheck and the next months rent to move.

I literally just had the clothes on my back and a computer and cash.

One of the guys we had over said he rented someones couch in an apartment in Keene for six months.  Now he has his own business.  Take an inventory of the things you own and how much you could sell them for.  If you get desperate enough like i did you can probably find enough crap to sell to pay your way out.  Just have to decide to do it. Its scary but it was the best thing i ever did

My wife and I are engaged in team building in NH.  This weekend we had a free stater couple over saturday dor dinner and sunday we hosted a bill review party where several fsp participants came over to review how pro or anti liberty current state legislation is. I habent asked all of them but most who where here fall under the anti state / anarchist banner.  These people are tight knit and do a lot of things together.  The team is in NH.

A better way to explain anarchy to the technically capable mind:

     "Anarchy is open-source Law."

I dont do anything 'as a species'.  The questioner is falling into pattern matching on some examples that are then extrapolated to the whole set, ergo collectivism.

It is only a matter of people who do not think in collectivist terms living close enough to demonstrate the viability of a leaderless society.  A free society will work for people who desire liberty. A free society will not work for people who dont

Instead, the poor beleaguered taxpayer ends up with BOTH.

Oh I absolutely agree that is the reality.  I'm merely saying that theoretically, if the reality were that there were no property tax and instead an income tax, it would be easier to deal with.  Income is easier to vanish than a house.

I would never advocate for a swap because you are right, there would just be both.

** Update**
I think the hobbit hole idea isn't really going to happen.  I talked to a finance officer for a lender today about getting financing for land and building and that wasn't really an option for us.  Land in southern NH is expensive and rare in quantities over 1 or 2 acres.  Since I'll be around Nashua for the foreseeable future, I think we are just going to buy a house.

We found a perfect place in Hudson on 5 acres (mostly swamp).  It would be the perfect venue for throwing events for activists like pool parties, back yard barbecues etc.  Also pretty decent garden potential.  The property taxes are lower in Hudson than the surrounded townships so that's where we are going to focus.

An article about the futility of trying to convert the masses and some alternatives.

I finally had time to read the article, since I'm having trouble sleeping tonight...

I absolutely agree with the enclave method, though not necessarily pursuing a remote location at this time.

New Hampshire is enclave enough and here is an example.
I went to the Free Nashua weekly meetup yesterday evening with my wife.
We met a software engineer, a control engineer, a machinist, a chemist, a data analyst, and I didn't even get to meet them all.

As our mass increases, so will our gravity pull more liberty lovers this way.  We'll build amazing things in time, but it is more important to take the small steps and do simple things like just showing up to meet people and form bonds.
