I knew it was a matter of time; I just wasn't sure who would try it first: CA, NY, MA, Il.  Appearently the winner was Il.

Quote
“Based on what we know about Cullerton’s bill, firearms that would be banned include all semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Pump action shotguns would be banned as well. This would be a very comprehensive ban that would include not only so-called ‘assault weapons’ but also such classics as M1 Garands and 1911-based pistols. There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering. You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the State Police to avoid prosecution.”

*UPDATE*    Illinois Modern Firearms Ban and Mag Cap Bills Pass Out of Committee

If this is allowed to stand, then it will certainly be pushed in the Federal Government as well.

I'm almost glad. Let'em do it, and when the entire state becomes the war-zone that is Chicago, it will act as an excellent bad example.

Maybe it will prompt the few remaining liberty lovers to want to leave... perhaps to NH.

I hate this country sometimes.

EDIT: Random thing; I picked up my textbook for my Macroeconomics class for this semester, and within 5 pages I found a graph mathematically modeling supply and demand. So I'm pretty miserable, as I'm thinking already that my Econ professor and I will be speaking completely different languages.

"But they just got them from another state! We need to ban them everywhere!"

Statist gonna state.

Let the conservatives move to the south. Let the libertarians move to New Hampshire.

I don't understand libertarians who don't understand that we're at war here. A lot of libertarians DO understand we're at war with the state, but refuse to move to New Hampshire. My attitude is that when you're in WAR, you've got to be mobile. You can't just wage a war from your living room and think it will turn out okay. Sometimes you've got to mobilize, redeploy, and sometimes even RETREAT.

Moving to New Hampshire is sort of like all of those. You're mobilizing with other libertarians and you're also retreating from your current state.

When I left California it was a retreat. I basically surrendered California to the enemy(the state). Hopefully, California can be liberated in the future, but for now it's clearly in fascist control.

There are a few states that are liberty leaning. If somebody is already living in Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, or Montana, perhaps retreating isn't necessary. Hell, I don't even blame somebody for moving to one of those states. But if you're in any of the other states, be they overwhelmingly "conservateive" or "liberal" you've got to retreat.

Again, I think New Hampshire is the place for libertarians to mobilize.

They exist, but I don't know of them.

The only ones that get any press within the movement are the ones in Keene/Manchester.

The rest are too dispersed and lay too low to be popular.

Absolutely agree Seth.  I hate to invoke militaristic language but it is perfectly descriptive of the mindset required for victory.  Maybe I should revisit that old Libertarian Art of War blog article I started way back when.

Violence is a part of militarism.

I really hope this fails to pass in that state, but if it does the results will speak for themselves.

Hmmmm. So the state that just had its 500th murder and has the most restrictive firearm laws on the books is...passing more firearm laws? It's logic just keeps getting better.
