Market Anarchist since...
«

Is everyone on this forum a recent convert to anarchism? Was anyone an anarchist before 2006?
I'm beginning to think the anarchism movement is picking up a lot of strength...even in the short time I've been a part of it. I feel it isn't moving yet, but lots of people are getting behind it. If someone has been around anarchism for a longer period of time, they could provide some perspective, and comment on this claim of mine.
Maybe I'm just paying more attention now, and that accounts for this, but perhaps it really is growing at a nice rate.

New since end of '08. Anarchists are multiplying rapidly, I believe.

Somewhere around April of this year for me.
Crazy thing is that many of my friends are accepting my anarchy arguments better than my former republican ones. Personally, I'm feeling the anti-government shift.

What's your date? Or is it 2006.

sometime around winter of 09/10 for me.
The financial collapse of 08 led me to understanding the banking/monetary system and that is what put me on the path.

... since Harry Browne in '00 (Libertarian presidential candidate) ... since finding Anti-State.com around 2001 ... since reading
http://mises.org/books/chaostheory.pdf
by Robert Murphy in 2001
It was a gradual evolution for me. My Myer-Briggs type is INTJ; a quote from Wikipedia:
Quote
INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms
The current system doesn't work; socialism doesn't work (I briefly flirted with it when I was younger - gasp!) -- what system would allow for maximum personal liberty? Breaking it down to its roots I gradually found the market anarchists.

Late 2008 after the republican primaries. I realized that voting was a complete waste of time and that the system could never be reformed, but needed to be eliminated instead.

Late 2009 for me. It always makes me chuckle to read that just about everyone else took the same / similar path that I did: Neo Con -> Ron Paul -> LRC / Mises.org -> full blown anarchism. To be fair, I have to attribute some of my thought process (if not the entire foundation) to my study of philosophy in school, specifically Plato and the Socratic dialogues.

99 Ignorant/Apolitical, staunchly religious.
00 GOP Precinct chair, state delegate. Witness politics in action, got disgusted and quit. Still religious.
04 Became interested in libertarianism. Still religious.
06? Supported Ron Paul. Still religious.
08 Started questioning my religion and my politics.
10 Quit church (no tithes, etc.) and 'the system' (no votes, etc.)
11 Consider myself full blown atheist/anarchist

What was it that converted you to atheism? I know most people who start off as staunchly religious and then leave the church also become atheists. It's rare that somebody leaves the church but still believes in God. To me, the two aren't synonymous.

I spent the prior 3 months questioning everything I knew politically. Before then, I had recently become a political libertarian, but I really wanted to delve into political philosophy. So I read, and read, and read. I remember getting to the point where I wasn't sure if I was a minarchist or an anarchist...the whole shock factor and all. I remember it was definitely the weekend of August 7, and I think it was a saturday, which makes it the 7th. The reason for remembering an exact date is so that I can reflect upon the transition to anarchism, and assess how successful I've been in converting people the year past. Lol, an anarchist anniversary of sorts.

I was born an anarchist, I just didn't know it till about 2009. Before that I was a Ron Paul libertarian. How many people here are atheist and how many aren't? I myself am a Christian in the PCA.
