Unfortunately what you are calling rights are irrelevant.  A carjacker doesn't have a right to your car, but that isn't going to stop him from taking it.

If you're merely saying that we should do the best we can to protect ourselves, then that would be one argument.  But there's a difference between a carjacker and government.  Most people agree that the carjacker is doing something wrong, and thus they consider it illegitimate.  On the other hand, most people tend to think that governments are legitimate.

Thus, doing our best to protect ourselves also includes persuading others of the illegitimacy of government.

I was saying that you don't grant them a right, you don't have to.  They will do what they think is in their best interest, 'legitimate' or not.

For most people, indirect theft is what they believe to be in their best interest.  It is like they all want to be the organized crime boss that doesn't get their hands dirty.

Sure, but the point is that the perceived legitimacy of government lets it get away with more than any other criminal organization could.  Get rid of that legitimacy, and you've taken away at least part of its power and ability to harm.

This is like the "George ought to help" thread.  Many people see the threat, the theft, and are ok with it.  They believe it helps them, so they don't mind.  I've even seen people do a 180 on their liberty viewpoints after having a kid due to the perception that they can force others to behave differently in order to protect their kid.

Unless people value freedom over whatever it is they think they can get through force (ironically even freedom itself is included there), they will give up their freedom for it.  Even the military claims to be protecting freedom, while essentially enslaving the population to pay for their existence.

It is easy to show the government for what it is.  Everyone sees it in their paychecks.

The question is, how do you change peoples priorities?

You don't fuck em. You just need to build your own organized crime syndicate. Whose purpose is to kill the State. Personally I advocate killing the Tax collector. At least we can start there.
