 I love it when the lists are so top secret that no one can clearly say if the program exists are not. Um, sorry, but if you can't actually confirm if the program exists, then are you even bothering with appointing someone that can information from the program?

I have mixed feelings about using these nicknames.  My gut instinct is to concern troll: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=concern+troll.

I'm still on the fence about the use of nicknames for those I disagree with.  Part of me thinks that using derogatory nicknames makes it easier for people to take my arguments less seriously, while the frosty side makes the kid in me think "who the hell cares".

I think it all depends on the context of the situation. Here, on an anarchist forum, we're not trying to convince people that Obama's policies are bad, we already all agree on this fact. So by calling him some funny name we're just commiserating with each other.

However, when talking/arguing with the "outside world" (ie those who disagree with our positions) I think it's important that we present a good image and clear, logical arguments, and as such avoid anything that smells of a personal attack.

That makes sense:  treating these forums like a private conversation among friends.

About a decade ago I decided I would try something new.  I would never say something about someone that I wouldn't say if they were listening.  For example, my friend married a woman who is kind of crazy.  There is a really good story about how she had a nervous breakdown trying to buy medium salsa for example.  I don't mind saying that in this forum, because I would say it out loud both in front of my friend, and also in front of his wife.  But I wouldn't call her  Crazy McSalsapants, even though the occasion might warrant it.

So far it's been a good policy.  It has made me both more rude, and less rude at the same time.  More rude, in that I'm likely to speak my mind more often in front of people who might be offended or uncomfortable by it.  Less rude, in that I don't trash talk behind people's backs anymore.

I wonder how that would work out if I was ever invited to an official government function.

I adopted that policy a few years ago too. It's worked out well for me.
