Putin’s Libertarians

Thursday, April 10th, 2014   Submitted by Roman Skaskiw

u-genghis-khan-monumentLast August, I met former Belarusian Presidential candidate Yaroslav Romanchuk at a libertarian conference near Lviv, Ukraine. He was somewhat of a Ron Paul figure, a businessman-turned-politician advocating radical free market reforms in Belarus. The consequences for being a libertarian in or near Russia are much more severe than in the United States. In 1994 he faced pressure: to stay in business he’d have to either join the mafia or join the government. He ended up abandoning the import-export business he had spent years building.

We joked about America’s RT (Russia Today) news service — that the United States government should sponsor a Russian language libertarian channel in Russia and Eastern Europe. The joke, which for us needed no explanation, was that governments can invoke principles of freedom when they undermine a rival government, while simultaneously behaving like a savage tyrant at home. This should not be difficult to understand. (more…)

Daily Anarchist Annual Donation Drive

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013   Submitted by Seth King

DonateNowIt’s been one year since Daily Anarchist’s last fundraiser and I’d like to give you all a head’s up as to what we’ve accomplished in these past 12 months. For starters, since July 2012 Daily Anarchist has received well over 600,000 unique visitors. Granted, those aren’t DailyKos numbers, but for an overtly anarcho-capitalist website, they’re tremendous. A very large portion of that traffic was directed towards our most viral post to date How and Why to Get to Silk Road.

I’m very proud of that piece because it has exposed hundreds of thousands of individuals to Tor and Bitcoin; two vital ingredients for modern anarchism.

The Euphemism of Libertarianism

Sunday, March 17th, 2013   Submitted by Christopher Zimny

EphemismThe libertarian world can be summed up, ultimately, as freedom from crime. Based on the principles of private property and non-aggression, many anarcho-capitalist writers propound and rework “ideal” visions of a “libertarian world”. Events and interactions in such a world usually include, for example, a free market healthcare system, unencumbered by the coercion of government, a free banking system which places the production of money and regulation of interest rates into a free market, varying forms of education that serve the specific demands of market participants, and so forth.

Daily Anarchist Annual Fundraiser

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012   Submitted by Seth King

It’s that time of year again when I ask for alms. But before I do so, I’d like to give you an account of how far the Daily Anarchist has come, what its current hurdles are, and where we’re going.

One year ago when I did my fundraiser we had just cleared the month of July and received roughly 8,500 unique visitors for the month. During the month of August I received only a single, solitary, donation. It was for $100, however, and it really helped to boost my morale to continue the website. I’m glad I did, too, because the website has grown so much so that last month Daily Anarchist received over 35,000 unique visitors for the month; a new record.

My First Call to Action

Sunday, June 3rd, 2012   Submitted by Seth King

In the more than two years that I’ve been running Daily Anarchist I’ve never published a post calling for a targeted mass action by the community. Today I am changing that.

One of the greatest strengths of activist websites is the ability to organize and concentrate efforts towards goals that can only be achieved by mass action. As you may or may not know, several months ago I began rejecting the Dollar in my store section. I now only accept Bitcoin as payment for my anarchist flags.

A few months ago I mentioned to my flag dealer that I would eventually like to start paying for my flag shipments in Bitcoin. I didn’t expect him to jump on it as he’d likely never heard of Bitcoin before. Again, a few weeks ago, I told him that I would soon need to order another batch of flags and that I am only interested in paying in Bitcoins. Again, he was not interested.

Today, I have officially run out of the most popular selling flag, the 3′ x 5′ free-market anarchist flag, or standard yellow and black. I would very much like to purchase some more but am unwilling to do so with Dollars. I think it would be wonderful to send a message to my flag dealer that there is a large and growing community of people who use and support the Bitcoin economy.

If you could take a short amount of your time to send my dealer an email asking him to accept Bitcoin as payment for his goods it would mean a great deal to me. If successful I am sure it would also mean a great deal to those who will be eager to purchase such a flag in the future.

The individual to address your email is Jason. His email address is flagsales@the-flag-makers.com. Please mention Daily Anarchist in your email.

Thank you very much! Let us hope this works!
